DEVELOPER HISTORY

Before AI.
After AI.

This page is the archive's time machine. The point isn't to pretend the old work was perfect. The point is to show what was built, how it looked, what still works, and how the development process has changed.

00 / CURRENT WORK

Phone Site · Daily Boost + Pulse

This stays out of the archive. It represents the current experimental era: small, useful, phone-first tools built quickly and iterated with modern assistance.

THE FOUNDATION

Still deliberately simple

Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, local browser storage and no backend. The simplicity is part of the experiment.

THE AI-ASSISTED ERA

Faster iteration, same ownership

AI can help iterate on UX, accessibility, debugging and ideas. The project remains understandable, editable and owned by the developer.

01 / ARCHIVE

StarWars Discover

An early React/API project. Its package still contains the original GitHub Pages deployment configuration, so this is one of the first historical demos to verify and repair if necessary.

THEN · HAND-CODED

The original project

React, JavaScript, Bootstrap and an API were combined manually, with the design and behaviour figured out through documentation, experimentation and debugging.

NOW · AI-ASSISTED ERA

Same history, better presentation

The original project remains an artifact. Modern tooling can help explain, test, document and polish it without erasing the original work.

02 / ARCHIVE

Landing Page Collection

A collection of frontend experiments that makes the progression in layout, typography and responsive design visible.

THEN

Build it by hand

Every section, spacing decision, responsive rule and visual adjustment was learned by building and fixing the page directly.

NOW

Design, iterate, explain

AI can accelerate the first draft, but the developer still decides what belongs, what works and what should ship.

03 / THE HOSTING ERA

The Heroku projects

Several older projects were deployed on Heroku's free tier. Those original hosting URLs are no longer treated as live demos. The repositories are still valuable, and viable applications will be restored on modern hosting where practical.

THEN

Live on Heroku

Memories, Thrift-it, Happy Birthday and Ninja Smoothies were among the projects originally associated with the old deployment era.

Restore, don't fake

Memories is a Node/Express/Mongoose app with a React frontend and Heroku build scripts, making it a good restoration candidate. Thrift-it remains private and will not be exposed through the public archive beyond a safe reference.

Archive rule: never fake a live demo. If an old deployment died, the portfolio says so and points to the source instead.

04 / LEARNING ERA

JavaScript, Algorithms, Udacity & FullStackOpen

These projects are the receipts: small experiments, exercises and applications built while learning the fundamentals.

THEN

Manual learning

Read documentation. Type the code. Refresh the browser. Break something. Search. Fix it. Repeat.

AI as a tool, not the story

AI can speed up implementation, but the history still matters because it proves the fundamentals were learned before the shortcut existed.

05 / PERSONAL

The pages that started it

Some pages are intentionally preserved as artifacts. They are not here because they are technically impressive; they are here because they are part of the story.

THEN

Original page

The preserved birthday/personal page can still be opened as an artifact of the earlier portfolio era.

NOW

A portfolio that remembers

The new portfolio doesn't hide the old work. It gives it context and puts today's projects beside it.
